Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

To fly in the sky is a dream that many people have. There is a great way that you can experience the thrill of not just flying but also of piloting a plane. For this all that you need is a remote control model airplane. With these remote control airplanes you can see the speeds your plane can go. The different planes in the market will allow you to choose the ones that you will enjoy having the most.

The principle behind remote control airplanes is very simple. You stay on the ground and your remote sends radio signals to the model airplane. Depending on what you want the airplane to do the signals will convey this information. You will discover there are various types of remote control airplanes. These will be ones that are futuristic in design, whimsical in nature and also vintage model airplanes.

These vintage style remote control airplanes are ones that are selected the most. These model airplanes are styled on real planes that once flew in the skies. To power these remote control airplanes you will see various types of fuel and engines.

When you shop for one of these remote control airplanes the best place to find them will be in hobby shops and toys shops. The price of these planes will vary and sometimes the type of airplane that you choose to buy will influence the price. This is not to say that you are creating the price hike but rather that you have chosen a popular model or one that is priced at high prices naturally.

The various remote control airplanes will allow you to see the different types of power that are used for these airplanes. You have gas mixture model airplanes, jet airplanes, and others.

For those hobbyists that feel that the building phase of flying their planes is just as important as the flying. There are kits of remote control airplanes that you can buy. These kits will reduce the time that is needed to locate and start the construction of your radio controlled airplane. Of course besides finding kits, parts that need to be assembled you will find there are few other types of model airplanes that can be bought.

These types of remote control airplanes are known as Almost Ready to Fly designs and Ready to Fly designs. With these airplanes the time that is spent on assembling the airplanes is cut down.

For instance you have 10 to 20 hours spent on building a from scratch remote control airplane. The almost fully built remote control airplanes on the other hand will let you take your airplane to the skies much earlier. This way you can be performing loop de loops in the sky.

Cyclone Radio Control Car

Caroline Miller asked:

There are a lot of radio controlled cars (RCs) available in the market today. Go inside a hobby store and you will see monster trucks, regular cars and SUVs, racer types, and a lot more. Many hobbyists and RC collectors buy their RCs and several enhancements in order to place them in RC competitions, with the hopes of winning, both for the prize money and the pleasure of winning itself. If you are a person who is into RC racing, specifically those dealing with speed, you may want to get yourself a Cyclone radio control car., which is an RC designed and built with speed in mind.

A Cyclone RC comes with all-terrain rubber tires and suspension shocks. What does this mean? This means that aside from being a speed demon on normal roads, you can bring the Cyclone to a dirt road and it will still leave the other RCs behind in a literal "eat my dust" type of race. You can bring it and use it in almost any kind of terrain, whether rocky, dusty, flat, bumpy, etc. The Cyclone RC is truly an RC that collectors must get their hands on. It is a great combination of speed and power.

Perhaps the only problem you will experience with the Cyclone RC is the fact that it gets dusty and dirty when you use it in that kind of terrain and you will spend some time cleaning it afterwards. It is a minor problem compared with the other problems other RCs experience initially (tire trouble, suspension problems, motor problems, etc.). The silver or black color will come out in a different shade when it goes through dirt, but you will be happy to see the amount of dust it kicks up in the air as it picks up speed. Be sure to watch though, since you might ram an unwanted obstruction which could cause damage to the RC.

RC collectors must have the Cyclone included in their collection. It is a highlight of any RC collection due to the fact that it is a high speed vehicle, yet has no equal of its size when in comes to all-terrain function. It is really easy to control too, as there are two speed controls - one low and one high. The low speed control comes in handy when going through rough terrain, and when the road evens out, push the high speed control to see how fast the Cyclone can go.

Origins of the Remote Control Car

Riz Davis asked:

The beginnings of the remote control car can be traced back to the 1940s, when small, nitromethane-powered engines first entered the market. At the time, the only way to control an engine-powered model car was with a tether. While these cars were fast, they merely ran in a circle from the tether. In the late 1960s, the first miniaturized solid state radio control systems were introduced, allowing model cars to have servo-controlled steering, throttle, and brake functionality that could be remotely controlled from a transmitter unit.

Several early commercially viable remote control cars became available by 1966, produced by El-Gi (Elettronica Giocattoli), a company from Reggio Emilia, Italy. Their first remote control car model was a 1:12 Ferrari 250LM. This was followed by their 1:10 Ferrari P4 model, which was first shown at the Milan Toy Fair in early 1968. Between the mid to late 1960s, a British company called Mardave also began to produce commercially viable remote control cars. Their first products were nitro- or gas-powered cars which were sold in the early 1970s.

During that period, several commercial products were manufactured by small firms in the United States. Most of these companies started out as slot car companies, then moved into the remote control car field, which was becoming more popular. Early kits were 1/8 scale nitro-powered aluminum flat pan cars powered by a .21 or smaller engine, with the bodies made of polycarbonate.

In 1976, the Japanese firm Tamiya released a series of highly detailed but mechanically simple electric on-road car models. Although more expensive, these kits and radio systems sold quickly. Soon, Tamiya began to produce more purpose-built remote-controlled model cars, and were the first to release off-road buggies with real suspension systems. This allowed remote control cars to be driven virtually anywhere, not just on bitumen and smooth surfaces. It was this development toward the off-road class that brought about much of the hobby’s popularity.

Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Miniature boats are very appealing and very thrilling. Many find it amusing to see or experience a miniature boat skim of the surface of water of a local lake. Whether you are a kid or a grown-up, you will still be excited to watch these boats on water. There is, at the same time, immense pleasure in seeing you own emote controlled boat doing all this. There is a sense of achievement after completing a huge and challenging project. For making a boat you will need materials that will be available in hobby stores. Making these boats is actually easier than it might sound. It is a process that will involve hard work, no doubt, and good building skills. You should make sure you enjoy the efforts put in.

Building your own remote controlled boat gives massive satisfaction and makes things exciting rather than buying a pre-made one. You feel challenged when you are making such a boat for yourself. It can give you a lot of satisfaction and joy. When you actually finish making the boat and watch it do its trick, it feels awesome. So making a boat will somehow pay off at the end of the day. But, however, failure is due to strike and even if it does, you should be backing yourself up and do your best. Your boat might fail to navigate or it may sink, but you should be persevering to go on. Keep trying until you succeed and that satisfaction of achievement is very special.

You would prefer boats already created by someone, any day, than building it yourself. If you don’t have the experience in this it might seem very hard. The remote control boats are found everywhere. It’s on the internet, books and even magazines. Preparing a scaled model, having a full-sized boat in mind, will be helpful. If you think radio and motor components won’t interfere, this is a safe path to pursue. You need to be a perfectionist when it comes to this, as even a slight misreading could result in your boat crashing or just struggling to float on water. So do not attempt strange techniques. Keep it simple and plan accordingly.

Wood is the most important raw material to construct a boat. You will need a lot other supplies as well. For custom plans, wood is probably the best material which can be used. You get balsa wood, which is a very light form of wood, in general hobby stores. Since light woods are liable to snap, you might need large quantities of these. So buy them in bulk and use it optimally. Glue is used for holding the wood pieces together. You start off with a hull-shaped structure and then sheets of wood are used to plate it. You then fill the holes and cracks with some kind of putty and then to make it waterproof, you spray sealants. At the end of it all, painting can be done to make it look however you wanted it to be.

Radio controlled boats usually requires more attention than when you work on other remotely controlled planes or cars. Radio equipments demand proper handling as even a drop of water onto the electrical components can damage it big-time. You will have to buy new, expensive equipments. Waterproofing motor equipments is quite difficult and hence it is safer to use it without the involvement of electricity before you actually make your first attempt. A waterproof sealant can prevent the water from seeping through.

Making a radio controlled boat isn’t an easy job and you will have to pay attention to many things during the process. You will have a great time working on it if you can invest time on it. It’s a fun hobby and you have to cherish every moment of the process.

Rc Beginner Basics: How to Get Started With Radio Controlled Car Hobby

Thursday, August 26th, 2010
radio control
Caroline Miller asked:

Within each person is a high, a desire to expand one's horizons. While some require a huge physical and monetary challenge, embarking in a radio controlled car hobby is much less demanding and more practical to turn into a reality. But a radio controlled hobby is no joke to deal with. It could turn nasty if you don't get yourself ready for it. The desire is just the start of passion and a time-consuming journey which can be one of your life's' greatest rewarding activities.

First you need to determine which you would prefer to have: toy RC kits or hobby kits. Hobby kits are higher in quality but require more expertise. A good way to test if the hobby is for you is by purchasing the toy kit first and then stepping up to the more sophisticated hobby kit if you get the feel for the hobby. Toy kits are assembled and even available in toy stores, while hobby RC cars require assembling capabilities and a bit more than basic knowledge.

There are a host of RC car types available for you, and only you can determine which suits your fancy. There are scale models which are 1/20 of the original, and there are others which are life-size or even bigger than the original. If you're just getting started the smaller the better and more manageable. They vary in speed depending on size and power source.

There are two types of power source available for a typical radio controlled car: electric and fuel. In terms of speed, engine powered ones are more reliable and exciting to use. However, electrically generated ones are much more user-friendly as far as maintenance is concerned. Since you are beginner, always choose the lesser evil and upgrade to a higher challenge only when you are knowledgeable enough to do so.

Electric-powered motors require a radio system to keep them going. These include a transmitter, a receiver and servos. Servos are placed in both the vehicle and the receiver. They serve as connecting nodes between commands from the transmitter to the receiver. The battery pack is rechargeable, though it takes much longer to charge. Some tools for the hand are also needed for the routine maintenance checks.

Engine-powered ones also require a radio system. But its battery is non-rechargeable by electricity. An igniter is also needed, since it relies on fuel combustion to move it at awesome speeds. Nitro models don't usually operate on gasoline. It requires a different mixture of chemicals for combustion. You will definitely need a bottle for fuel storage; lest you run out in the midst of the action.

Radio Controlled Airplanes – Learn The Art Of Flying Them

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Abhishek Agarwal asked:

r the very first time, you should ensure all precautionary measures so that you don’t ruin the plane and also waste money. Following the guidelines diligently and pragmatically will ensure your plane to be very safe for flying.

The choice of the day and place to fly your radio controlled airplane requires a lot of thinking. Choose an ideal day with clear skies and tolerable wind. Make sure it is a warm day in the park, though it isn’t going to jeopardize the mission. You should be going to a spot where take-off would be smooth and ideal. A conducive place will definitely help your case. Roads and sidewalks are the best places for this activity. You should also ensure there aren’t low houses or trees in the vicinity and preferably not many people around. Having low houses or trees could prove costly as your flight might get interrupted between the branches of the trees. And also ensuring that only very few people around to watch it is necessary, as people sometimes can prove to be a nuisance.

You might be a professional but you still have got to check all the equipments before flying your plane around. If it is faulty it might prove costly. Checking up the plane once or twice before flying won’t do much harm. Pay special attention to the landing gear while landing he plane. The plane should have the strength and stay rigid while landing the plane on whichever surface you have planned to land on. Checking the connections between the fuel supply or batteries and the motor is very essential. Test every motor and radio equipment methodically and take some help of a friend if needed.

Now, set your airplane on a good surface which can act as a runway and suitable for take-off. If you choose a park, make sure the sidewalks you have chosen has enough room for the airplane to roll, gain speed and take-off. Try to prevent people from walking close to the runway. If everything goes well, you should be able to lift smoothly in the air without much hindrance. Hopefully you should know the nuances of flying the airplane and be able to control it properly. Every radio controller is unique so necessary adjustments have to be made while flying. Read your manual thoroughly before attempting anything.

You will have to do another inspection after a flight in the airplane. If it had all started well and the flight was smooth without hindrance, there isn’t a possibility of a new problem arising from nowhere. However, inspecting the plane irrespective of the success of the flight is very important. If you spot a flaw in the airplane its better to repair it immediately rather than the next time you intend to fly.

Follow all the instructions and step by step procedure and have a safe flight. Make sure you don’t disobey any local law and cause trouble for people around. Flying is a worthwhile activity which can be enjoyed and cherished if proper guidelines are followed and implemented properly.
